ABOUT HEIA
Hate & Extremism Insights Aotearoa (HEIA) uses a range of computer driven and qualitative tools and approaches to monitor the risks of extremism in Aotearoa New Zealand. HEIA monitors and assesses the levels, nature and risks of hate speech, misogyny, disinformation, extremist ideologies and violence in New Zealand.
Politically impartial, objective and evidence-driven, HEIA works closely with a range of stakeholders to keep Aotearoa – and its diverse and connected communities and spaces – safe from harm.

Dr. Chris Wilson PhD

Dr Chris Wilson is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Auckland. In his research and teaching he focuses on the causes of political violence, including violent conflict, civil war, hate crimes, genocide and terrorism.
Chris has published two books and in a range of international and domestic journals, including Terrorism and Political Violence, Democratization and Journal of Genocide Research.
He is the director and founder of the University of Auckland’s Master of Conflict and Terrorism Studies.
